St. Andrew's is joining in with all the parishes in Nebraska to erase $2.5 million in crushing medical debt! Nebraska, as a significantly rural state, has a higher rate of uninsured and underinsured individuals and families who are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy. To address this immediate and important need, we are partnering with the non-profit organization Undue Medical Debt. This organization, powered by donors, buys and erases the medical debts of everyday people and frees them from bills they can’t afford. Just like predatory debt collectors, we can buy the debt at a steep discount—but unlike predatory debt collectors, the debt is forgiven. Each $1 donation erases about $100 of medical debt! People across Nebraska will receive letters that their medical debt has been paid off by the people of the Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska. Better yet, there are no taxes, penalties, or strings attached. Our diocese-wide campaign will run from June 15th – September 15th. Our state-wide goal is $25,000—eliminating approximately $2.5 Million of medical debt for Nebraskans.
