We accompany Mary to embrace our suffering redeemer. Longingly, they reach out to each other. The sword that pierced both of their hearts is one of love. It is the frustration we feel in the face of suffering. Bad things often happen to good people. Sometimes we are powerless. All we can do is walk beside them in love and prayer.

The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was blessed them and said to Mary his mother “Behold this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted, and you yourself a sword will pierce, so that many hearts may be revealed.” Luke 2:23-35
