Station 15 – Jesus Rises from the Dead

The rectangular bronze base of the previous stations is turned on its end; it has become a door. Christ is risen! He raises his arms in a victorious blessing. He floats in front of the cross. The death it brought has no more power over him. He appears to us in our darkened upper rooms to bring us the light of truth and love.

Fr. Keith explains, “The altar at St. Andrew’s has a shield on the front inscribed with the letters ‘IC XC NIKA.’ During most of the year, it is covered by the ornate frontal and is not visible, but it can be seen every year during Lent when the frontal is removed. This is a traditional Greek Christian Christogram used since the earliest days of the church. It translates to ‘Jesus Christ is Victorious.'”

Death itself is defeated. As we died with him, so we shall rise. We follow in his footsteps.

I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! I hold the keys of death and of hell. Revelation 1:18

He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:6
